Red Vein Treatments

Q&A_words.png

Which treatment is best for red veins?

There are several methods of treating and removing red veins. At The Chilgrove Clinic we use the ThermaVein treatment method. Thermavein uses a process called thermo coagulation. An insulated probe with a 4Mhz current is applied to the skin causing the vein to empty of blood. Thermavein then seals the vein by gently heating the vein wall. The body will then naturally reabsorb the vein and break it down.

What are the benefits of ThermaVein?

Unlike IPL and Lasers, ThermaVein® cannot cause loss of pigmentation. It treats red spots, a variety of vascular blemishes and troublesome red veins. When used in combination with Scelerotherapy, ThermaVein® is perfect for treating legs. ThermaVein® can be used equally well on men.

How long does a ThermaVein treatment take to heal?

You can expect recovery to take 3-4 weeks for areas on the body, but faster healing times of around 1-3 weeks for the face.

How safe is a ThermaVein Treatment?

ThermaVein® uses heat to destroy the veins. There are no chemicals involved, no injections and no incisions. A very low current of 4MHz is used during treatment. The low current and the fact that ThermaVein® does not treat the blood means ThermaVein® is very safe for patients.

What is involved in a ThermaVein treatment?

The practitioner introduces a fine needle equipped with a polarisation light system over the vein, which helps in targeting the veins very accurately. In most cases the vein literally disappears instantly.

How long does a ThermaVein treatment take?

Treatment time usually ranges from 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area requiring treatment.

How does a ThermaVein treatment feel? Does it hurt?

The sensation can be compared to a small pinch or a needle prick and is over very quickly.

What will I look like after a ThermaVein treatment?

There will be some redness and swelling present in the area treated. However, this will subside usually over 1-2 hours after treatment. You will be provided with a skin aftercare product to use over the following 2 days

Will I need any dressings after a Thermavein treatment?

No dressings or cover-up will be required following your ThermaVein treatment. There is no incision or 'breaking' of the skin with the needle used to seal your vessels

What aftercare is advised following a ThermaVein treatment?

Aloe vera gel followed by SPF 30 or higher will be applied to the skin immediately after treatment.

Avoid direct exposure to sun for 1-2 weeks, whilst continuing to apply spf 30 or higher, daily.

Tiny micro-crusts may be present as the skin is healing but this usually resolves within 1 week after the treatment.

How often will I need a ThermaVein treatment?

Treatment on the face can be repeated after 4 weeks and treatments on the body after 6 weeks if needed.

Is ThermaVein suitable for all skins?

Yes – unlike IPL and Laser treatment, ThermaVein® thread vein removal can be used for any kind of skin complexion. It is also suitable for sensitive skin.
