MICRONEEDLING
Combined with Electroporation

In our mission to always bring you the latest treatments that will deliver the best results, we are excited to be introducing the EPN microneedling pen.

The EPN microneedling pen is the world’s first medical microneedling pen to combine both microneedling and electroporation in one treatment delivery.

Our senior practitioner Karen Johnson has been providing microneedling treatments since 2008. During that time she has carried out countless skin improvement treatments using microneedling, beginning with a fixed needle roller, then progressing to motorised pen delivery treatments.

Medical microneedling is her go-to ‘Gold Standard’ treatment for all skin types and skin concerns.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure involving superficial and controlled puncturing of the skin with miniature, fine medical needles. Medical microneedling uses these micro needles in a dermal pen that is moved over the skin to create tiny, evenly-spaced puncture wounds on the skin.

Small needle clusters penetrate in to the skin and break up old collagen strands, and stimulate a wound-healing response, which in turn leads to the production of new collagen and elastin.

WHAT IS ELECTROPORATION?

Electroporation is a technology that releases electro-stimulating pulses to increase the permeability of the cell membrane. This allows for increased absorption of serums applied during the treatment, for maximum results in hydrated, healthy and firmer skin.

Microneedling combined with electroporation significantly increases the amount of serum delivered into the skin compared with traditional microneedling methods. The benefit of combining these two proven skin improvement methods in one device means that treatments will produce a faster and more noticeable result than with microneedling alone.

When deciding to undergo this type of treatment, it’s good to consider the following important information about the safety and efficacy of the products that are going to be used with this procedure

Since the advent of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) many more people are now aware of the MHRA (Medicines And Health Regulatory Authority) In addition to regulation of medicines so that they are safe to to be used/taken by the general population, the MHRA also regulates certain products and equipment used in our branch of practice, known as Aesthetic Beauty/Medicine.

In particular, micro needling, Laser treatments for cosmetic reasons, such as hair removal, and skin peels are being looked at very carefully by the MHRA, and new regulations for these treatments are under way. We know that in the case of micro needling, there are two main concerns that the MHRA wishes to regulate:

  1. The products or serums injected into the skin

  2. The micro needling devices used, in particular micro needling pens

In both cases, the serums or products injected into the skin, and the implements used to inject the products, should both bear CE certifications. This is a very complex subject, but basically, if you have micro needling treatments at our clinic, you can be assured that our micro needling pen has CE certification and paperwork supporting its authenticity and safety. Micro needling pens and the micro needles used within them both need to conform to the required safety standards, such as prevention of body fluids entering the main chamber of the pen, presenting a risk of cross-contamination, and the micro needles themselves should be the correct gauge, and be free from barbs that can tear or injure the skin. For your assurance, the needles are 33g ultra sharp, and of the highest quality, encased in biocompatible medical plastic.

The FILLMED NCTF HA serum that we are using alongside our micro-needling protocols is CE certified for injection into the skin. It is currently one of only a handful of serums that is certified, and therefore it’s important to check with your practitioner what is being used on your skin before you undergo treatments.

Post treatment

Immediately following your treatment, we will apply the FILLMED Hyaluronic Youth Mask, which contains skin-identical Hyaluronic Acid, as well as collagen and green tea, to soothe and hydrate your skin, in addition to using the Dermalux MD LED light canopy, to aid wound healing and calm your skin, whilst you relax for 15 minutes.
