Microneedling & The Fusion Platinum Pen 2
If you’ve had treatments with me before, you’ll know I’m super passionate about skin treatments that genuinely work and consistently deliver real, visible results for clients - microneedling is firmly in that category. It’s one of those treatments I trust completely. I first learned about the science behind microneedling from Dr Des Fernandes, who pioneered and introduced microneedling for collagen stimulation and skin rejuvenation in 1996. I have been providing microneedling treatments for 25 years as a skin practitioner, and during that time it has continued to evolve, from using skin roller devices to the advanced microneedling pens we have today.
In this post, I want to break microneedling down in a simple, honest way - how I explain it to my clients - and share why Fusion Platinum Pen 2 is my first choice device.
What Pen Microneedling Actually Does
Microneedling can sometimes sound scarier than it is. I always think it's really important when explaining treatments to clients that I keep it informative but easy to understand, to alleviate any worries they may have. I generally explain it like this:
We create tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin using very fine, sterile needles. These micro-injuries signal the skin to start repairing itself. When the skin repairs, it produces:
- Fresh collagen for plumping and reduction of fine lines
- New elastin fibres for lifting and tightening the skin
- Healthier, more organised skin cells for that glowing, radiant skin health from within
This natural healing response is what makes microneedling so effective - we’re not forcing the skin, we’re simply encouraging it to behave how it did when it was younger. We can then step it up a gear and further enhance the result with specially selected sterile topicals - this really is the icing on the cake! I have been using Fusion mesotherapy serums during my microneedling treatments for many years. They have a great safety profile along with clinical evidence of their effectiveness in skin improvement and collagen stimulation.

Why I Love Microneedling as a Practitioner
Microneedling is one of those treatments that doesn't take long for clients to truly see and feel the difference in their skin. So many clients absolutely love their results, and that kind of reliable positive feedback is exactly what makes this job so special. It helps with so many concerns:
- Ageing and fine lines
- Texture and enlarged pores
- Acne scarring
- Pigmentation (non-inflammatory)
- Dullness and dehydration
- Stretch marks
- Loss of firmness
And the downtime is minimal compared to more aggressive resurfacing treatments. I am a big fan of natural regeneration and letting our bodies do what they do best, but they just need a little help getting going again when our cellular processing slows down with age or after skin inflammation/injury, and that's where microneedling comes in!
Device Quality Matters (A Lot)
I’ve tried a range of different microneedling devices over the years, and the difference between a high-quality device and a cheaper model is obvious as soon as the needle touches the skin.
A good device should offer:
- Stability and precision
- Low vibration
- Consistent power
- Smooth needle entry without dragging
These things massively impact client comfort, safety, and the quality of the results. This is why I’m very particular about the pens I use in my clinic.
Why I Use the Fusion Platinum Pen 2
The FDA-approved Fusion Platinum Pen 2 is the microneedling device I wholeheartedly trust. I love it because it’s reliable, powerful, and genuinely feels premium when you work with it. Some of my favourite features:
1. Smooth, controlled needling
The upgraded motor gives an incredibly stable feel - no sudden jumps and no uncomfortable, excessive vibration for the client.
2. Precise needle depth
I like being able to adjust depth easily depending on whether I’m treating general rejuvenation or focusing on scarring (something I am really passionate about treating!).
3. Cartridge quality
The needles glide beautifully. Whether using the standard or nano cartridge, I can feel the difference instantly when working across different skin areas, textures and densities.
4. Lightweight and comfortable to use
If I’m doing multiple treatments a day, this matters more than people think! Plus the sensation feedback from the pen itself in my hand is super sensitive, letting me feel everything and thus allowing me to adjust my hand position with precision as needed.
5. Consistent results
Every practitioner wants predictable outcomes. This device delivers them.
Safety & Best Practice
During consultations, I emphasise that the technique is just as important as the device. Safe microneedling requires:
- A thorough consultation
Clear contraindication checks
High hygiene standards
Correct depth selection
Proper aftercare guidance
When those things are done properly, microneedling is one of the safest advanced skin treatments.
Final Thoughts
Microneedling is a treatment I’ll always stand behind. When it’s combined with the right training, the right technique, and the right device, the results speak for themselves. The safety features and classification of the Fusion Platinum Pen 2 means there’s always a safe and effective outcome for my clients. The results speak for themselves, and the numbers of clients who return for treatments with me time after time are proof that microneedling is still a gold-standard treatment for skin improvement at every age.
